What is Proposition 65

Proposition 65 is The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 which was passed as
a voter initiative by the people of California. Nelson labels its products, when applicable, to remain
in compliance with California’s Proposition 65 Act. For more information about Proposition 65 from
The State of California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment,
visit www.oehha.ca.gov/prop65/background/p65plain.html

Proposition 65 does not focus on known risk factors for human cancer or reproductive toxicity. It only relies on lists of
chemicals—information on many of whose negative health effects is based on high-dose animal tests and is not directly
relevant to typical human exposures. Proposition 65 is essentially a “right-to-know” law that seeks to provide consumers
with information. For more informationabout Proposition 65 from The American Council on Science and Health,

Nelson prints a warning on product packaging simply to identify that one or more chemicals or elements
from the California list is present in our products or used in the production of our products.
